Patrick Diggins is now in his 22nd season as the director of rowing for the Crusaders. A rower at both St. John's high school (Shrewbury, Mass.) and at Holy Cross, Diggins joined the Crusader coaching staff as an assistant upon graduation in 1986. He was promoted to his current position in 1988. During his tenure, the program has enjoyed tremendous success and grown to be one of the largest varsity sports at Holy Cross. In addition to his duties as director of rowing, Diggins serves as head coach for the varsity women's squad. In the last five years the women's team has been remarkably successful, highlighted by two undefeated regular seasons. In addition, they won two New Hampshire Championships, received four bronze medals at the New England Rowing Championships, won the gold in the varsity eight at the Patriot League Championships three times, won the team trophy twice at the Patriot League Championships, won four Worcester City Championships and finished first and sixth at the ECAC National Invitational Championship. Previous high points include six conference titles since 1987 and a victory at the the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta for the 1994 varsity eight. Diggins was voted New England Women's Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2002 and was awarded the irow.com coaching award in 2002 along with Holy Cross men's rowing coach, Tom Sullivan. Diggins also serves on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of the Quinsigamond Rowing Association, Inc., the local organization that hosts the Big East Championships, the Patriot League Championships, the New England Rowing Championships, the Eastern Sprints, the ECAC National Invitational Championship Regatta and the New England Interscholastic Regatta. He was also a co-founder of the ECAC National Invitational Championship Regatta Collegiate Regatta. He and his wife Kristen '90, live in Holden, Mass., with their three children.
