Crusaders To Play At Providence & Host Rhode Island

  • The Holy Cross men's soccer team returns to action when it travels to Providence, R.I., to meet Providence on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 3:00 p.m. The Crusaders will then play at home versus Rhode Island at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Crusaders are 0-4-1 versus the Friars over the last five games between the two teams. Last year Providence won by a 2-0 score on Sept. 14. The Crusaders fell to Rhode Island last season, 2-1, on Sept. 17. That was the first meeting between the teams since a 1-0 URI win on Sept. 19, 1982.
  • Providence is 1-4-1 overall so far this season with a win over Bryant, a tie with Boston University and losses to Northeastern, Monmouth, Brown and Michigan State. Last year the Friars, who went 11-8-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Big East, received an at-large big to the 2011 NCAA Tournament and made it to the second round. Rhode Island is 0-3-2 overall this season with losses to Vermont, Brown and Northwestern, and ties with Bryant and Northern Illinois. Last season the Rams went 7-10-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the Atlantic 10.
  • Junior Josh Cintas (San Diego, Calif.) leads the Crusaders this season with two goals and four points as he netted a goal versus Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. He is tied for first in the Patriot League with 0.67 goals per game and is third with 1.33 points per game. For his career he has three goals and five assists for 11 points. Junior captain Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) has one goal and one assist for three points so far this season. He scored his goal versus Dartmouth. His 1.00 points per game are tied for fourth in the conference. Sanders has five goals and one assist for 11 points during his career.
