Men's Soccer Shut Out By Lehigh, 1-0
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kyle Lucas scored the only goal of the game late in the second half as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Lehigh, 1-0, in a Patriot League contest at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-8-2 overall (1-2-2 PL), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 4-10-0 overall (2-3-0 PL).
The Crusaders took the first shot on goal of the contest when freshman Andrew Rhodes (St. Louis, Mo.) had an attempt saved by Ciaran Nugent at 16:28. At 20:26 freshman Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) prevented the Mountain Hawks from scoring when he saved a header by Michael Manta. Lehigh outshot Holy Cross, 4-2, in the first half, while the Mountains Hawks had three shots on goal and the Crusaders took two.
The Mountain Hawks scored the game-winner with just 7:01 left in the second half when Lucas found the back of the net. The Crusaders were only able to take one shot on goal in the second half as Lehigh earned the 1-0 win.
Wright made eight saves, while Nugent posted three saves to earn the victory. Lehigh outshot Holy Cross by a 14-6 margin, while the Mountain Hawks took nine shots on goal and the Crusaders had three. Lehigh led in corner kick opportunities, 6-1.
The Crusaders will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24, when they host Bryant at 7:30 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
