Men's Soccer Falls To American, 1-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stephen Hauschild scored the game-winning goal for the Eagles with just 24 seconds left in the second half as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to American, 1-0, in the Patriot League regular season finale on Saturday at Reeves Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-9-2 overall (2-3-2 PL), while the Eagles improve to 10-5-2 (5-0-2 PL). The Crusaders tied with Bucknell for fourth place in the Patriot League standings with eight points, but lost the tiebreaker as the Bison qualified for the four-team Patriot League Tournament.

The Eagles took the first shot on goal of the contest at 29:23 when Colin Seigfreid had his shot saved by freshman goalie Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas). That would be the only shot on goal in the first half. The Crusaders outshot the Eagles, 6-3, in total shots, while the Crusaders took the only two corner kicks of the half.

Junior Dane Kenny (Williston Park, N.Y.) took the only shot on goal in the game for the Crusaders when a shot off a header was saved by Billy Knutsen at 59:58. Wright kept the game tied by making four saves. But with just 24 seconds remaining Hauschild was able to send a shot in the corner of the net for the game-winner. Dale McDonald posted an assist on the goal.

Wright made five saves for the Crusaders, while Knutsen posted one save. American outshot Holy Cross, 10-9, while the Eagles took six shots on goal and the Crusaders had one. The Crusaders had three corner kicks and the Eagles took two.

The Crusaders return to action Tuesday, Nov, 6, when they conclude the season at Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
