Men's Soccer Defeated By Harvard, 2-0, In Season-Finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brian Rogers and Richard Smith each scored a goal for the Crimson as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Harvard, 2-0, in non-conference action in the Crusaders' season finale on Tuesday night at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders conclude the season 5-10-2 overall, while the Crimson improve to 3-10-3.

Harvard took a 1-0 lead at 27:53 of the first half when Rogers found the back of the net. Then at 31:13, Smith scored on a header off a corner kick by David Barna to increase the lead to 2-0. At 34:23, junior Tommy Uttaro (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the first shot on goal for the game by the Crusaders as Evan Mendez made the save. Then at 38:52, Uttaro had another shot saved by Mendez. Each team took seven shots for the half, while the Crimson had five shots on goal and the Crusaders took two.

Junior Dane Kenny (Williston Park, N.Y.) took the only shot of the second half for the Crusaders as his header was saved by Mendez at 82:22. The Crusaders were unable to get any other shots on goal as the Crimson earned the 2-0 victory.

Freshman goalie Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) made four saves, while Mendez posted three saves to earn the shutout and the win. Holy Cross outshot Harvard, 12-11, while the Crimson took six shots on goal and the Crusaders had three. Each team had six corner kicks.
