WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross Varsity Club has announced the 2014 selections for induction into the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame. Included among the 2014 inductees is former soccer player Matt Ney (Class of 2003).
Ney was a standout forward on the Crusader men's soccer team from 1999-2002. He recorded 38 goals and 16 assists for 92 points during his four years, and still ranks as Holy Cross' all-time leader in career goals scored and career points scored. Twice named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Ney was also a four-time All-Patriot League selection and a two-time All-New England honoree. He led the team to three Patriot League regular season titles (1999, 2001 and 2002), with the 2002 squad capturing the conference tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Over the course of his four years on the team, Ney helped the Crusaders to an overall record of 40-24-7, with a 19-5-2 mark in Patriot League regular season play.
This year's other inductees are Fran Dyson (Class of 1953, baseball, basketball), Mary Fitzgerald (Class of 1983, field hockey, basketball, softball), Tom Noering (Class of 1963, track and field), Tony Quesada (Class of 2006, ice hockey) and Jim Sweeney (Class of 2001, baseball).
These new honorees will be formally inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 3, at the Varsity Club's annual dinner, to be held in the Hogan Campus Center.
