WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's soccer program has announced that seniors Michael Thompson (Cromwell, Conn.) and Will Bowers (Raleigh, N.C.) and juniors Luke Melody (Mansfield, Conn.) and Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) will be the team captains for the 2014 season.
During his Holy Cross career, Thompson has started 19 games, posting two shutouts and 74 saves. In 2011, he recorded two shutouts and earned AT&T Crusader of the Week honors. Thompson has been a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2012. He has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Bowers played in all 20 games in 2013, starting two. He recorded four points on the season scoring two goals. Throughout his collegiate career, he has appeared in 46 games making 20 starts and tallying five points. Bowers has been a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy since 2012 and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011.
Melody started all 20 games in 2013. He tallied one goal and one assist on the season including the game-winning goal in a 2-1 defeat of Lehigh on Nov. 9. He was named to the third team All-Patriot League. In 2012, Melody played and started in 16 games, totaling four points on the season with two goals. He is a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
Wright played and started 18 games at goalie in 2013, with a record of 9-7-2. He recorded three shutouts and led the Patriot League with 93 saves on the season and 5.17 saves per game. He earned several accolades as he was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament team, Crusader of the Week (11/18), ECAC Defensive Player of the Week (10/16) and Patriot League Goalie of the Week (10/14). In 2012, Wright played in 12 games, starting 11. He recorded 46 saves and three shutouts for the season. He is a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Boston University as their five-game spring season begins.
