PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) recorded first place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes as the Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team fell in a dual meet at Providence by a score of 175-123 on Saturday afternoon.
Power touched the wall in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.15 and in the 200 breaststroke at 2:33.74. Junior Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) and freshman Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) also added first place finishes for the Crusaders. Yburan swam the 50 freestyle in 25.06 seconds while Wright finished the 100 butterfly in 1:00.32. Yburan also landed second in both the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 1:03.71 and 2:19.33, respectively. Wright finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.51.
Other top swimmers for the Crusaders included freshman David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) who took second in the 800 freestyle with a time of 9:21.11 and sophomore Jack Swain (West Hartford, Conn.) who touched the wall just behind Power in second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.61. Mullany also finished second in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:29.44. The 200 medley relay team comprised of Yburan, Power, sophomore Michael Brower (Falling Waters, W.Va.) and Wright also finished in second place with a time of 1:53.27.
On the diving side, junior Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) led the Crusaders with second place finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dives with scores of 251.92 and 266.17, respectively.
The men's swimming and diving team with host its final home meet of the season this Saturday, Feb. 2, against Bryant at 1:00 p.m.
