WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) recorded two first place finishes as the Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team fell to Bryant on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center, 170-125. Wright swam to victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.05 and 200 individual medley, touching the wall at 2:03.78.
Junior Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.98 seconds while fellow classmate Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) finished first in the three-meter dive with a score of 232.13. Videtti also finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 249.83. Senior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) earned a pair of second place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:04.28) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.82). Senior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) also added second place finishes in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle with times of 52.04 and 5:06.84, respectively.
The 200 freestyle relay team comprised of Yburan, senior John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio), Lyons and Wright finished in second place with a time of 1:34.40 while the 400 medley relay team comprised of Yburan, Power, Wright and Lyons finished with a time of 3:39.56 in second place.
Prior to the start of their final meet at the Hart Center, Lyons, Power, Vatalaro and fellow seniors Richard Pellegrini (Rockville Center, N.Y.) and Ned Supple (Needham, Mass.) were honored by head coach Barry Parenteau, diving coach Wilson Aybar and assistant coach Ian Hennessey in a brief ceremony for their hard work and dedication to the men's swimming and diving program over the past four years.
The men's swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 21-23, at the Patriot League Championship, hosted by Bucknell.
