Men's Swimming And Diving Drops Decision To Springfield

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team fell at home to Springfield on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center by a final of 166-134. The Crusaders were led by senior Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) who posted first place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.

Yburan touched the wall in the 50 freestyle at 22.35 seconds, 100 backstroke at 56.08 and 200 backstroke at 2:02.58. Sophomore Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) added a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.16. The 400-yard medley relay team also recorded a first place finish with a time of 3:41.25. The team was comprised of Yburan, junior Jack Swain (West Hartford, Conn.), Wright and freshman Max Kearns (Marion, Mass.).

Other top swimmers for the Crusaders included freshman Andrew Higgins (New Canaan, Conn.) who finished second in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:01.66 and 2:15.14, respectively. Senior Zachary Cietek (Guilderland, N.Y.) took second in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.39, sophomore Matthew Bates (South Easton, Mass.) finished second in the 200 butterfly at 2:10.80 and sophomore David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) was runner-up in the 500 freestyle at 5:08.18.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Wright, junior Thomas Horigan (West Hartford, Conn.), Mullany and Kearns also finished second with a time of 1:32.71. On the diving side, senior Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.Y.) was the top Holy Cross finisher, taking second in the one-meter dive (249.45) and third in the three-meter dive (260.40).

The men's swimming and diving team will return to action on Nov. 22-23 at the Harold Anderson Invitational. The event is hosted by Rhode Island.
