Matt Wierzel Named Patriot League Tennis Player Of The Month
WORCESTER, Mass. -
Holy Cross junior tennis player Matt Wierzel (Garden City,
N.Y.) has been named Patriot League Male Tennis Player of
the Month for September. It is the first time in program history
that a Crusader men's tennis player has been so honored by the
Patriot League.
So far this season, Wierzel has accumulated a 15-1 singles record,
won the individual championships at the Stonehill and Wheaton
invitationals and advanced to the championship match of the
Connecticut Invitational, the farthest any Holy Cross tennis player
has reached in that tournament ever. Last year, he became the first
in program history to earn All-Patriot League honors when he was
named to the second team.
The Crusaders are 2-2 on the fall season and have two more dual
meets scheduled, both at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. They will
host Merrimack on Thursday, Oct. 8 and entertain Boston University
on Friday, Oct. 16. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4:00
p.m.
