Men's Track And Field Finishes Second In Open Meet At Maine

ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross men's track and field team was defeated by Maine on Saturday afternoon by a score of 116.50-63.50. Senior Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) took first place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:34.55 and freshman Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.) added another first place finish for the Crusaders in the 500 meter run crossing the finish line at 1:06.05.

The Crusaders had five second place finishes in the track events including sophomore Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H.) in the 55 meter hurdles (8.34), senior Chandler Fenner (Virginia Beach, Va.) the 55 meter dash (6.58), freshman Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) in the 1,000 meter run (2:35.52), the 4x440 yard relay team consisting of sophomores Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) and Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Dutton and senior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) (3:29.45) and the 4x880 yard relay team made up of sophomore Sean Hagan (Reading, Mass.), freshman Jake Griffin (Billerica, Mass.), sophomore  Nick Athanasidy (Cordlandt Manor, N.Y.) and junior Nick Poles (Quincy, Mass.) (8:28.86).

In the field events, freshman Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) threw a distance of 13.92 meters in the weight throw to finish second. Other top performers included freshman Dominic Gerardi (Simsbury, Conn.) who finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.75 meters, Fenner who finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters, sophomore Kyle Carr (Westerly, R.I.) with a throw of 11.52 meters to finish third in the shot put and senior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) who finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.32 meters.

The Holy Cross men's track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m. when they travel to the Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
