Men's Track & Field Hosts Final Day Of PL Outdoor Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's track and field team completed the final day of competition at the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Saturday at the Hart Track. Seniors Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) and Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) earned the top finishes for the Crusaders each taking sixth place in their respective events. Altenau ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal best time of 9:14.58 and Martin finished the triple jump with a distance of 13.72 meters.

Sophomore Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.), who qualified yesterday for the final heats of the 100 and 200-meter dashes, took home eighth overall in both events with times of 11.15 and 22.66 seconds, respectively. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished in sixth place. The 4x100 was comprised of freshman Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H), Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) and Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) and finished with a time of 45.16 seconds and the 4x400 team was made up of freshman Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.) sophomore Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.), junior Nick Poles (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) and finished at 3:26.77.

In the decathlon, senior Michael Millard (Manhasset, N.Y.) and sophomore Amenawon Johnson (Framingham, Mass.) finished in 10th and 12th place respectively with 5,311 and 4,695 points. Millard finished tied for third in the pole vault portion of the event with a height of 3.90 meters and fifth in the javelin with a throw of 42.61 meters.

Other top finishers for the Crusaders included Moczula who took 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.84 meters, sophomore Greg Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Mass.) who set a personal best mark of 4:00.28 in the 1,500-meter run and fellow classmate Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who set a new personal best in the 800-meter crossing the finish line at 1:54.19.

Bucknell won the Patriot League Championship with a team total of 167 points. Navy followed with a total of 153 points and Army rounded out the top-three with a total of 149 points.

Qualifying members of the men's track and field team will compete in the New England Championship next weekend, May 10-12, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (5/10), 10:00 a.m. (5/11) and 12:00 p.m. (5/12).
