Men's Track & Field Travels To Minuteman Invitational
AMHERST, Mass. – Junior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) finished third in the 800-meter run as the Holy Cross men's track and field team finished 12th of 14 teams at the Minuteman Invitational on Saturday, hosted by UMass Amherst. McGrath crossed the finish line in a team season-best time of 1:53.93.
Junior Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) took home a fourth place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a career and team season-best time of 15:02.75, surpassing his previous personal-best time by just over 45 seconds. Junior Nick Athanasidy (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) finished behind McGrath in the 800 with a personal season-best time of 1:55.11, missing his career-best mark by just four one-hundredths of a second.
Junior Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) crossed the finish line in eighth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a career-fastest time of 15.97 seconds. Sophomore Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.) and freshman Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) added a pair of top-10 finishes with Galasso taking 10th in the 200-meter dash with a personal season-best time of 22.78 seconds and Tejidor finishing 10th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:04.02.
The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of freshman Tim Dunn (Fords, N.J.), sophomore Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.), Galasso and junior Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) finished fourth with a time of 43.33 seconds and the 4x400-meter team of sophomore Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.), junior Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.), McGrath and Athanasidy took sixth with a time of 3:25.09.
In the field events, Dunn finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 4.35 meters, sophomore Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) took eighth in the hammer throw with a career and team season-best distance of 43.97 meters and Coulter landed 10th in the triple jump with a career and team season-best jump of 12.29 meters.
The men's track and field team will host the Holy Cross Decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18, before returning to full team competition with a home meet on Saturday, April 20, against Bryant, Central Connecticut, Hartford, Maine, Massachusetts and Stonehill beginning at 11:00 a.m.
