Men's Track & Field Finishes Fifth At Holy Cross Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – The men's track and field team took fifth in the team competition on Saturday at the Holy Cross Invitational as four Crusaders earned first place finishes. Senior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.89, junior Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:49.78, freshman Tim Dunn (Fords, N.J.) finished atop the field in the pole vault with a season-best height of 4.55 meters and sophomore Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) took first in the hammer throw with a career-best distance of 46.32.

Other top finishers fort the Crusaders included sophomore Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.) who took third in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.49 seconds. Sophomore Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) finished behind McGrath in fourth place in the 800 with a time of 1:56.71. Freshman Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) crossed the finish line fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:01.65, junior Kyle Carr (Westerly, R.I.) took fourth in the hammer throw behind Carey with a season-best distance of 39.92 meters and sophomore Brian Wheeler (Malden, Mass.) finished fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 48.79 meters.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Galasso, junior Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.), freshman Lucas Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y.) and junior Nick Athanasidy (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added a third place finish for the Crusaders with a time of 3:23.16.

Junior Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H.) reached a career and team season-best distance in the long jump with a sixth place finish and mark of 6.10 meters and sophomore Mike Techiera (Foxboro, Mass.) set a career and team season-best time in the 100-meter dash with a seventh place finish and time of 11.24 seconds.

Maine finished the team competition in first place with a total of 175 points. Stonehill came in second with 131 points and Massachusetts took third with 99 points. Bryant (98), Holy Cross (87), Central Connecticut (66), Hartford (53) and Colgate (12) rounded out the field.

The men's track and field team will return to action on Tuesday, April 23, hosting its second and final home meet of the year against New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Worcester State beginning at 3:00 p.m.
