WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) took first in the triple jump and the 4x400-meter relay team also crossed the finish line in first place as the Holy Cross men's track and field team hosted its second and final home meet of the season on Wednesday afternoon versus New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Worcester State. Rhode Island finished first in the team competition with 199 points, followed by New Hampshire (143), Worcester State (122) and Holy Cross (109).
Coulter jumped a career-best distance of 12.33 meters in the triple jump. The 4x400 relay team comprised of sophomore Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.), freshman Lucas Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y.), sophomore Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) posted a time of 3:21.69. Both marks were team season-bests.
Four other Crusaders set team season-best marks at the meet. Sophomore Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.) sprinted to the finish line in the 100-meter dash in a career-best time of 11.15 seconds, taking fourth place. Galasso ran the 400-meter dash in an individual season-best 49.65 to finish in third place. Junior Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H.) took fourth in the long jump with a career-best distance of 6.12 meters and the 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Tim Dunn (Fords, N.J.), Tran, sophomore Mike Techiera (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) finished in third place with a time of 42.94.
McGrath also finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:01.18. Dunn landed second in the pole vault with a height of 4.35 meters. Keefer added a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.05 and Coulter took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.66. Senior Nick Foster (Trumbull, Conn.) rounded out the Holy Cross participants with top-3 finishes, taking third behind Coulter in the triple jump with a distance of 11.56 meters.
The men's track and field team will return to action on Sunday, April 28, at the Brown Springtime Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m.
