McGrath, Keefer Earn Academic All-Patriot League Accolades

WORCESTER, Mass.­ Senior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and sophomore Lucas Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y.) have been selected to the 2014 indoor track and field Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter of key player in his/her sport.

McGrath Competed in the 1,000-meter run, 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay at the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship. He finished in fourth place in the 1,000 with an IC4A qualifying time of 2:28.42, ran the anchor leg of the 4x800 relay that finished fourth with a season-best time of 7:43.89. and ran the third leg of the 4x400 relay that finished eighth at 3:28.46. This season, McGrath set a career-best and team season-best time in the 1,000 at the Valentine Invitational (2:25.48) and a career-fastest time in the one mile at the Tiger Invitational (4:21.06). McGrath, a History and Religion major, holds a 3.62 cumulative grade point average.

Keefer competed in the 500-meter dash and 4x800-meter relay at the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship. He finished sixth overall in the 500 with a time of 1:06.27 and ran the second leg of the 4x800 as the team finished in fifth with a season-best time of 7:43.89. He set a career-best and team season-fastest time in the 500 at the Valentine Invitational earlier this season with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:04.70. Keefer also set career-fastest times this season in the 400 (Maine, 51.23), 800 (Joe Donahue Games, IC4A qualifying 1:53.93) and one mile (Harvard Open, 4:28.68). Keefer, an Economics major, boasts a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

Qualifying members of the men's indoor track and field team will return to action at the New England Indoor Championship today and tomorrow, Feb. 28-March 1, at Boston University.
