BRONX, N.Y. – The men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the 2013 season on Saturday morning at the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The women's team finished in third place of 17 teams while four student-athletes represented Holy Cross on the men's side. Both teams participated in the University race.
For the women, senior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) led the Crusaders across the finish line with an eighth place finish of 162 runners and time of 18:37.9 on the 5K course. Sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) finished behind Hughes in 15th place at 18:47.3 while freshman Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) and senior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) took 27th (19:04.9) and 29th (19:12.5), respectively.
Rounding out the women's Holy Cross finishers in the top half of the field were freshman Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) who landed 50th (19.36.1), freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) who took 57th (19.49.6) and sophomore Katie Holdridge (Preston, Conn.) who finished 62nd (19.52.7). Pittsburgh took the team title in the Women's University race with 83 points, followed by Sacred Heart (95) and Holy Cross (126).
On the men's side, sophomore Joe Murphy (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) led the Crusaders with a time of 28:46.6 on the five mile course followed by freshman Patrick Franco (Winchester, Mass.) with a time of 28:57.0. Freshman Max McKee (Bedford, N.H.) crossed the finish line at 30:31.3 and sophomore Steven Chrappa (Bronxville, N.Y.) finished at 30:59.1 to round out the Holy Cross field.
The 2013 men's and women's cross country seasons have come to an end.
