WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) totaled 26 points and seven rebounds to lead the Holy Cross women's basketball team to an 80-75 win in an exhibition game at the Hart Center Tuesday night. Fellow senior guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) added 18 points for the Crusaders, while junior forward Whitney Fremeau (Manchester, N.H.) posted 16 points.
The Crusaders took an early 11 point advantage five minutes into the contest, going up 17-6 at 15:34. Assumption came back to tie it at 19 with a little over ten minutes to go in the half. Assumption then rallied to take a 37-33 lead into the halftime. The teams battled back and forth in the second half, seeing five lead changes before Holy Cross took over the lead for good with a little over seven minutes left to go in the game, finished with the five point advantage.
Holy Cross shot 43.4 percent from the field (23 of 53) and 56.3 percent from three-point range (nine of 16) on the night, in addition to posting a 44-36 advantage on the boards.
Assumption was led by Kayla Parker and Katy Howard who each scored13 points combining for a 9-16 shooting effort.
The Crusaders will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 13, when they play at Yale beginning at 7:30 p.m.
