WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring a season-best 16 points in the win against New Hampshire on Nov. 23 and following with a 14-point performance in the 19-point win over Harvard on Nov. 28.
Smith went 10-for-23 from the floor in the two wins last week, including seven three-point shots made. She also averaged a team-high 31.5 minutes, 15 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She tallied a team-high five steals against New Hampshire and tied her season-high with four three-point shots made against Harvard.
On the season, Smith averages 9.5 points per game, ranking second on the team. She has also taken the reigns as the squad's top three-point shooter, sinking 14 treys on 41 tries (34.1 percent). Smith ranks first amongst league leaders in three-pointers made per game (2.3) and is ninth in three-point field goal percentage. Collectively, Smith is also averaging 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 30.7 minutes per game thus far.
Holy Cross will welcome an undefeated Central Connecticut team to the Hart Center next on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The Blue Devils travel to Worcester, Mass., for a 7:00 p.m. game.
