WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week after averaging 18 points-per-game in two outings last week. She earns the award for the second-consecutive week.
Smith went 10-for-25 from the floor in the games against Central Connecticut and Maine last week, with all of her field goals made coming as three-point shots. She poured in a season-high 21 points against Maine, sinking five three-point shots in 14 attempts. She notched five three-points shots made against Central Connecticut as well. She averaged a team-high 36.5 minutes on the week and posted 4.5 rebounds per game.
On the season, Smith averages 11.6 points per game, ranking second on the team. She has fully taken the reigns as the squad's top three-point shooter, sinking 24 treys on 65 tries (36.9 percent). Smith ranks first amongst league leaders in three-pointers made per game (3.0), which also ranks 20th in the nation.
Holy Cross (4-4) will wrap up its five-game home stand against the undefeated Boston College Eagles (8-0) on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. The game will be broadcast on Worcester's WCTR-TV3.
