WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from December 20-26. Smith scored a career-high 22 points for the Holy Cross women's basketball team in its only game last week, a 76-65 loss at Northeastern.
During Tuesday's loss to the Huskies, Smith hit eight of 12 shots from the field, including six of nine attempts from three-point range. In addition to her 22 points, she added three assists, two rebounds and two steals in 38 minutes of action.
On the season, Smith is tied for the team-lead in scoring with an average of 12.5 points per game, to go along with 36 rebounds, 30 assists and 20 steals. She has made 37.2 percent of her three-point field goal attempts (35 of 94) and 86.7 percent of her free throws (13 of 15).
The Crusaders (4-7 overall) return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 28, when they face East Tennessee State at 4:30 p.m. in the opening game of the Marriott Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
