WORCESTER, Mass. – For the third straight week, Holy Cross freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has earned Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for her performances against Patriot League foes Navy and American. She averaged 12.5 points and four rebounds per game, sinking 50 percent of her three-point field goal attempts (seven of 14).
Smith led the team in scoring for the ninth time this season in the week's second match-up with American on Feb. 19, scoring 16 points. She made four three-pointers against the Eagles and finished with six field goals made in nine attempts. Previously against Navy, Smith tied for the team-high with five assists, also tying her season-high for the sixth time. She scored nine points, added four rebounds and did not make one turnover. She finished the week with a 4.0 assist/turnover ratio, dishing out eight assists and committing just two total turnovers. On the season, Smith leads the squad with 86 assists and ranks second in team scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game.
Holy Cross (9-18, 5-7) looks to return to form with a win over Colgate (7-19, 2-10) in its last home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The Crusaders and Raiders will match-up at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass., beginning at 7:00 p.m.
