Alex Smith Named To Preseason All-Patriot League Women's Basketball Team
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's basketball sophomore guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named preseason All-Patriot League in a vote by conference head coaches and sports information directors. As a team, Holy Cross was picked to finish fifth in the 2011-2012 Patriot League preseason poll, receiving 52 votes.
Last season, Smith was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team. She ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.1 point per game. She also ranked first on the team in minutes played per game (32.0) and assists (98). She finished the season with 82 three-pointers made, ranking second-highest in the Holy Cross single-season records.
Patriot League runner-up American was chosen as the preseason favorite to capture the league title with 94 points and 11 first-place votes. Lehigh was picked second with 83 points and three first-place votes. Defending conference champions, Navy, was voted third as sophomore Mid Jade Geif was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year. Filling the final five spots was Bucknell (58 points), Holy Cross (52 points), Lafayette (38 points), Army (26 points) and Colgate (23 points).
The Crusaders will host an exhibition game against Assumption at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Hart Center before the 2011-2012 season officially begins on Nov. 11 at Yale.
