WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from November 19-25. Smith averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest last week, as the Holy Cross women's basketball team split a pair of games against Harvard and Massachusetts.
During Tuesday night's 80-62 loss to Harvard, Smith totaled 14 points, four assists and three rebounds. Then in Sunday's 63-59 victory over UMass, she recorded 20 points, six assists and four rebounds. Smith hit five of nine attempts from three-point range against the Minutewomen, including a clutch trey to give Holy Cross the lead for good, 60-58 with only 37 seconds remaining.
On the season, Smith is averaging a team-best 16.4 points, 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game, while hitting 38.5 percent (15 of 39) of her three-point field goal attempts. Over the course of her collegiate career, she has now totaled 827 points, 309 assists, 244 rebounds and 118 steals.
Holy Cross (2-3 overall) returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when it plays host to Central Connecticut at 7:00 p.m.
