WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) had a team-high 23 points as the Holy Cross women's basketball team defeated Bucknell, 66-60, in Patriot League action at the Hart Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders extend their winning streak to six games, improving to 8-10 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League. The Bison fall to 9-7 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
With less than 10 minutes left in the first half and the teams locked at 14-14, Bucknell broke free to go on a 15-4 run, led by Lauren Schober's seven points. With Bucknell ahead by 11 points, 29-18, O'Dell turned the table on offense, outscoring the Bison by 11 points and holding them to just three. After being fouled on a successful layup, O'Dell hit the extra shot from the free throw line, putting the Crusaders ahead by one point at halftime, 32-31.
Back and forth traffic on the floor kept the score tight and after taking a short one-point lead, 46-45, the Bison would get no closer to the win as Holy Cross detained their scoring and pushed forward to grab it's largest lead of the half (63-53) with just three minutes to play. Holy Cross finished ahead of Bucknell by six points to close out the game, 66-60.
The Crusaders finished with their best percentage from three-point range, making 7 of 14 attempts (.500). O'Dell recorded her second-best efforts of the season from outside the arc, hitting six-of-nine attempts (.667).
