Holy Cross Women Defeat Lehigh 75-61

WORCESTER, MASS. - Senior Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) scored a season-high 24 points and senior Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J.) recorded her eighth career double-double to lead the women's basketball team past Lehigh 75-61 in conference action Saturday at the Hart Center. With the win the Crusaders improve to 8-14 overall and 3-4 in the league while Lehigh drops to 7-14 on the season and 2-5 in the conference.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 10-6 lead with Foley scoring eight of the 10 points for the Crusaders. The Mountain Hawks followed up with eight unanswered points to gain a seven point lead (19-12) at 13:42. Lehigh continued to increase the lead to 11 after an 8-4 run (27-16). Holy Cross retaliated with an 11-4 run to decrease Lehigh's lead to four (33-29) with 4:32 remaining in the half. In the last three minutes the Mountain Hawks went on an 8-5 streak to go into the half with a seven point lead, 41-34.
The Crusaders came out of the locker room on fire as Foley scored seven points to knot the game at 41. Holy Cross went on an 8-0 run to take a six point advantage at 14:50. The Crusaders did not allow the Mountain Hawks to go ahead again as Holy Cross scored 14 unanswered points and gained the highest lead of the game (72-52) with 4:02 left in the game. In the run junior forward Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) scored six points. The Crusaders held on to win the game by 14 points (75-61).
Holy Cross shot 55.8 percent from the field making six from the three-point range and 11 from the line. Foley led the team with 24 points and had five rebounds. Keil scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for her eighth career double-double. Freshman Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored 10 points and had a career-high six steals and seven assists while freshman Christy Cushnie (Vienna, Va.) had a career-high 12 points. Alex Ross led the Mountain Hawks with 15 points.
The Crusaders are back at home Saturday to face Lafayette in conference action at 1:00 p.m.
