EASTON, Pa. - Senior guard Laura Aloisi (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored 19 points as the Holy Cross women's basketball team topped Lafayette, 60-48, in a Patriot League contest.
The Crusaders improve to 13-10 overall and 6-2 in the league while Lafayette drops to 12-11 overall and 4-4 in league play. With the victory over the Leopards, Holy Cross took the season series, posting a 2-0 record.
The Leopards jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead as Cristin Zavocki hit her first three pointer just 32 seconds into the first half. Holy Cross retaliated as sophomore guard O'Dell scored five points to give the Crusaders a 8-7 lead.
Game control bounced back and forth between the teams, the Crusaders again grabbed the lead with under a minute winding down as Aloisi turned a fast break into a two-point lead (26-24). Lafayette tied the game with 27 seconds left in the half with a layup Maureen Johnson.
Aloisi and O'Dell led the first half scoring for Holy Cross with seven points each while Zavocki scored nine points, all from three-point range.
The Crusaders came out hot, scoring five quick points in just under three minutes, with McFadden hitting a pair of shots from the charity stripe. The Leopards grabbed a one-point lead (36-35) but the defense on both ends picked up, holding scoring for just over two minutes.
With 5:17 left in the half, the Crusaders never looked back, going on a 24-12 run lead by Aloisi with 12 points.
In addition to her 19 points, Aloisi had five assists, four rebounds and two assists while freshman center Elizabeth Campbell (Louisville, Ky.) had a career-high 11 boards and chipped nine points and one block. O'Dell finished with four rebounds and one block.
Zavocki led the Leopards, scoring all 12 points from long range.
Holy Cross returns to action, opening a three-game homestand with Army on Wednesday February 13, scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
