LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) totaled 15 points but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped a 58-44 Patriot League contest to Bucknell at Sojka Pavilion on Saturday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 10-15 overall and 5-5 in the Patriot League while the Bison improve to 13-10 on the season and 5-5 in league play.
With less than eight minutes left in the first half, Bucknell broke free from a 12-12 game with a 7-0 run, led by Trisha Krewson and Amanda Brown who hit back-to-back three pointers. The Crusaders got within two points of the Bison, 22-20, but Bucknell halted Holy Cross' offense with an 8-1 run. Scoring stalled in the final four minutes of the half with the Bison holding a seven-point lead at halftime, 30-23.
Bucknell held a steady lead throughout the opening four minutes, but Holy Cross continued to stay in the game on offense, getting within the Bison by seven points three times. With less than three minutes remaining in the game, the Crusaders came back to get within seven points for the fourth time in the game, (51-44), but would get no further as the Bison finished with a 14-point lead, 58-44.
Junior guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) finished with nine points, three rebounds and one assist while sophomore forward Whitney Fremeau (Manchester, N.H.) had six points, a team-high eight rebounds, one assist and one block. Lauren Schober led Bucknell in scoring with 15 points.
Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, February 18, traveling to Navy for a Patriot League game at 7:00 p.m.
