WORCESTER, Mass. -- Freshman guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) scored 13 points on five of eight shooting from the field, to lead the Holy Cross women's basketball team to a 77-59 victory over Bishop's University in an exhibition game at the Hart Center. Freshman guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals for the Crusaders, while junior forward Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) totaled 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Bishop's held a 13-10 lead after the first four minutes of play, before Holy Cross went on a 16-1 run over the next nine minutes to take control of the game. The Crusaders would later close the half on a 15-0 run, to take a 48-20 advantage into the locker room. During the second half, Holy Cross was able to increase its lead to 30 points on three different occasions, the last being 67-37 with 10:28 left to play. Bishop's was then able to close the game on a 22-10 run, to make the final margin 18 points.
Junior guard Laura Aloisi (Nashua, N.H.) posted game-highs of 12 assists and seven steals for the Crusaders, in addition to scoring six points. Sophomore forward Jessica Merrihue (Holtsville, N.Y.) added nine points, and sophomore forward Kathy Gruzynski (Elk Grove, Ill.) scored eight points. Bishop's was led by Emilie Crofton with 15 points, while Anouk Boulanger and Melanie Ouellet-Godcharles both scored 12 points.
Holy Cross opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10, when it plays host to Yale at 7:00 p.m.
