Orono, Maine - Sophomore guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) scored 19 points, leading the Holy Cross women's basketball team to a 79-50 victory over Maine in non-conference action at Alfond Arena. With the win, the Crusaders earn their first season victory, improving to 1-2 while Maine falls to 1-2.
Holding an 18-7 lead over the Black Bears, Brittany Boser brought Maine within nine of the Crusaders with a layup. McFadden quickly answered back, sealing the Holy Cross lead with a three-pointer, making the score 21-9 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Entering halftime, Holy Cross held onto a 40-20 lead over the Black Bears.
McFadden hit five of nine attempts from the floor, made three three-pointers and went 6-for-6 at the free throw line while chipping in two assists, two steals, and a rebound. Sophomore guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored 17 points for the Crusaders while recording three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block.
Senior guard Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) led the team in rebounds with six while tallying 12 points, one block, and one steal.
Holy Cross made 45.6 percent of its attempts from the floor (26-57) while hitting 52.2% of its three-pointers (12-23). From the free throw line, the Crusaders made 78.9% of their attempts, making 15 of 19 opportunities.
Colleen Kilmurray led the Black Bears with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, November 20, hosting Rhode Island for a game scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
