Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore forward Tayana Carper (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded a career-high 13 points and nine rebounds as the Holy Cross women's basketball team defeated Buffalo, 71-57, in non-conference action at the Hart Center. The Crusaders improve to 4-2 on the season while Buffalo falls to 3-3.
Holy Cross jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game as senior guard Laura Aloisi (Nashua, N.H.) scored four points while sophomore guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) chipped in a three-pointer. The Crusaders followed with 7-8 run that included Carper scoring four points (17-8), giving Holy Cross a nine-point with 7:13 left in the first half. The Crusaders went into the break with a seven-point lead over the Bulls, 29-22.
Holy Cross continued its hot streak, jumping to a 14-point lead over the Bulls (36-22) just a 1:34 into the second half as O'Dell scored one from the floor and a three-point and sophomore Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) chipped in a layup. The Crusaders gained as much as a 17-point lead going into the final minutes of the game and won by 14 points, 71-57.
Aloisi led the Crusaders in scoring with 17 points while chipping in two rebounds, three assists, and a steal. McFadden had 16 points, one rebound and three assists while O'Dell recorded 10 points, five rebounds and an assists.
Ashley Zuber led the Buffalo offense with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Holy Cross hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday, December 1, for a game scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
