Andrews Named Patriot League Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete

Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross senior center Lisa Andrews (Concord, Mass.) has been selected the 2005 Patriot League women's basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by league officials this morning.

A First Team All-League pick this season, Andrews started all 31 games for the Crusaders this season and led the team in points (396), points per game (12.8), field goal percent (.471), field goals made (162) and blocks (55). She tied for first in rebounds (168) and was second on the team in rebounds per game (5.4). The 6-foot-3 center also shot .727 percent from the free throw line, which was third-best on the HC squad.

Andrews led Holy Cross with 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game during the Patriot League tournament, on her way to earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors and helping HC to the school's 11th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance. Andrews then led the Purple and White with a 13-point, four-block effort in the first round of the NCAAs, but the 15th-seeded Crusaders fell to second-seeded Ohio State (Philadelphia Region), 86-45.

The Massachusetts native scored her 1,000th career point this season and finished the year ranked third in the conference in scoring (league games only) with 15.3 ppg and free throw percent (.818). She also ranked fourth in field goal percent (league games only), converting .514 percent of her shots.

Andrews served as a tri-captain this season and garnered ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District I honors. She was also named the Patriot League Player of the Week (Jan. 17, Nov. 22), and the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week (Feb. 14). She finished her career ranked second in blocked shots in both Holy Cross women's basketball history and Patriot League women's basketball history.

A Psychology major with a Visual Arts minor, Andrews has a 3.64 cumulative grade point average. She is the fifth Holy Cross women's basketball player in history to win the scholar-athlete award.
