Crusaders Sign Third Player to National Letter of Intent

May 2, 2007

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head women's basketball coach Bill Gibbons announced that a third student-athlete has signed a national letter of intent to attend Holy Cross and play for the Crusaders. Elizabeth Campbell (Louisville, Ky.) will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2007 in addition to Whitney Fremeau (Manchester, N.H.) and Alyssa May (Oradell, N.J.) who signed in November.

"This caps off what we believe is an excellent recruiting class for us," said Gibbons. "Elizabeth compliments Alyssa (May) and Whitney (Fremeau) very well. She is a versatile front court player with solid fundamentals and a terrific shooting touch. She is an aggressive rebounder, and since we lose our top rebounders to graduation, Liz will be counted on to fill that void."

Campbell is a center who played at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky. Following her senior season Campbell was selected to the Kentucky All-Star Team. She was also named to the All-State First Team and was the KABAC 7th Region Player of the Year. At the completion of Campbell's junior year she was named the Voice Tribune 7th Region Player of the Year and was selected to the Courier Journal All 7th Region Second Team. While playing for Sacred Heart Academy her team won the Prime Time Classic, and the Louisville Invitational Tournament. She also helped lead her team to District, Regional and State Championships. Campbell totaled 1,314 career points. She finished her high school career as the ninth leading scorer in the school's history. She is second in school history with 300 career blocks and sixth in rebounding (889). Campbell is an honor student and maintains a 3.65 grade point average. Elizabeth's cousin, Mary Rose Campbell, (Holy Cross class of 2004), was an All-Patriot League performer for coach Gibbons.

"Like her two classmates, Liz is an excellent student-athlete who possesses a tremendous work ethic and she is excited to be a part of the tradition that is Holy Cross women's basketball," Gibbons said.
