WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross women's basketball received 85 points and three first place votes to tie Bucknell at second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll of head coaches and sports information directors. Senior center Kaitlyn Foley (Albany, N.Y.) and senior guard Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J.) were two of five players selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League team.
Holy Cross finished the 2005-06 season 16-14 overall and 10-4 in the league finishing second. The Crusaders beat American and Bucknell in the Patriot League Tournament, but fell short by one point in the Patriot League Championship game to Army, 69-68. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League with 10 championship titles, the last coming in 2005.
Last season Foley was named first team All-Patriot League after leading the Patriot League in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Foley led the Crusaders with 447 total points and 183 total rebounds. Keil, a second team All-Patriot League pick last year, averaged 10.0 points per game and recorded six double-doubles. Keil was second on the team totaling 318 points and 181 rebounds.
Lehigh and American finished one point apart in the poll with Lehigh coming in fourth (48) and American fifth (47) followed by Navy (42), Colgate (35) and Lafayette (19).
The 2006-07 women's basketball season will kick off on Friday, Nov. 10 as Holy Cross hosts Yale in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m.
