Field Hockey Set To Open Season Versus Quinnipiac

  • The Holy Cross field hockey team will open the 2012 season at home against visiting Quinnipiac on Friday, Aug. 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Hart Turf Field. The Crusaders return 13 players from the 2011 squad and welcome six newcomers this season.
  • Quinnipiac will also open its season on Friday after playing exhibition contests against Connecticut and Providence. The Bobcats are coming off an 11-8 season in 2011, but the team was only 3-6 on the road. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams, with the series split, 3-3, and the third time the two have opened the season against one another.
  • Junior Lindsay MacPhail (Goffstown, N.H.) was named to the preseason All-Patriot League team. MacPhail is returning from a season ending injury after playing just two games in 2011. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Patriot League second team after appearing in all 17 games with 16 starts and landing fifth in points for the Crusaders.
  • Sophomore Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.) returns after starting 12 and appearing in 15 games last season. She made 89 saves in 2011 to rank fourth in the Patriot League and made an average of 6.36 saves per game while recording one shutout.
