Crusaders Post 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Siena
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior forward Carly Grimaudo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Emily Allen (Lee, N.H.) both scored goals, to lead the Holy Cross field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Siena at the Siena Turf Field. The Crusaders improve to 1-3 on the season with the victory, while the Saints fall to 0-2 overall.
The game was scoreless for the first 19 minutes of play, until Grimaudo moved past her defender and struck a shot between the goalkeeper's legs to put Holy Cross up 1-0. The score would remain the same until just under 10 minutes remaining in the second half, when Allen fired a shot from in front of the goal that sailed in to make it a 2-0 game.
The Crusader defense turned in an outstanding performance, allowing Siena to attempt just one shot in the game. Holy Cross would finish the game with an 11-1 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.) earned the shutout victory for the Crusaders, without needing to make a save.
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 9, when it plays host to 24th-ranked New Hampshire at 12:00 p.m.
