WORCESTER, Mass. – Eight members of the Holy Cross field hockey team were selected to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The entire 2013 Holy Cross field hockey team earned the National Academic Team Award as well for the seventh straight season for achieving a team grade point average of over 3.00.
Holy Cross senior Lindsay MacPhail (Goffstown, N.H.) was one of 98 student-athletes to be named to the Academic squad all four seasons during their collegiate career. In addition, senior Jess Dodakian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomores Michelle McNeil (Canton, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Murray (Farmington, Conn.) all were named to the team for the second time.
Crusader freshmen Rae Caliento (Ramsey, N.J.), Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.), Kat Nutting (Ashburnham, Mass.) and Gabriella Smith (Mendham, N.J.) all were named to the squad for the first time in their careers. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, student-athletes must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year.
A total of 72 NCAA Division I field hockey teams had a team GPA of over 3.00 during the 2013 season, with American University leading the pack with a 3.58 team GPA.
