Tara Welch Named Crusader Of The Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from September 18-24. Welch totaled three goals and an assist in two games last week, and in the process became the all-time Holy Cross career leader in both goals and points scored.

In Thursday night's 2-0 win over New Hampshire, Welch scored a goal at the 32:11-mark to help lead the Crusaders to victory. Then, in a 4-1 win at Fairfield on Sunday, she recorded two goals and an assist. Welch scored her first goal just 5:00 into the game to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead, and added her second goal and an assist in the second half to cement the victory.

On the season, Welch now leads the team in scoring with with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Over the course of her career at Holy Cross, she has totaled 49 goals and 16 assists for 114 points. On Sunday, she broke the records of Michele Gagne (48 goals, 1991-1994) and Jenna Cook (113 points, 2002-2005).

The Crusaders (6-3 overall) return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they play host to Lafayette in their Patriot League opener at 12:00 p.m.
