Women’s Golf Defeated By Winthrop In Dual Match

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Holy Cross women's golf team opened its 2013 spring season on Saturday, March 9, as it was defeated by Winthrop at the Par-72 Waterford Golf Club. The Crusaders had a team score of 382 strokes (+94) as the Eagles combined to shoot plus-25 (313). Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger was the medalist with a one-over 73.

Sophomore captain Morgan Powers (Glastonbury, Conn.) led Holy Cross with a ninth place finish and an 18-hole score of 92 (+20). Freshman Marisa Cameron (Garden City, N.Y.) placed in a tie for 10th place with a score of 93 (+21), as classmate Lydia Deneen (Hubbardston, Mass.) recorded a 95 (+23), which put her in 12th place. Rounding out the top five scorers for Holy Cross were freshmen Claire McMahon (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Erika Park (Berlin, Conn.) who had totals of 102 (+30) and 105 (+33), respectively.

Other individual players for the Crusaders were freshman Lisa Balesano (Auburn, Mass.), who recorded a 111 (+39), and classmate Regan McCooey (Manhasset, N.Y.), who carded a 117 (+45).

Holy Cross returns to action on March 30-31, when it will play in the Hawk Invitational hosted by Monmouth and held at the Jumping Brook Country Club in Tinton Falls, N.J.
