Sophomore goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) has been named the ECAC East Goalie of the Week, for competition from January 7-13. Manzanares earned her second shutout of the season in the semi-final of the Rutland Herald Invitational against Sacred Heart and made 25 saves in the final against Castleton State to take home Most Valuable Player honors as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team won the title.
Manzanares made 22 saves during Friday night's 4-0 victory over the Pioneers and withstood the offensive attack from the Spartans to help lift the Crusaders to a 4-3 victory in the championship game.
On the season, Manzanares now owns a 6-2-0 record with 165 saves and a 1.92 goals against average. Over the course of her collegiate career, she stands 12-2-1 with 301 saves and a 1.62 goals against average.
This is the fourth time this season a Crusader has received recognized by the ECAC East. Fellow classmate and goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) was named Goalie of the Week twice (11/26 and 12/10) and freshman Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week on Nov. 12.
Holy Cross (9-4-1 overall, 4-3-1 ECAC East) returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 15, when it travels to Colby for a 7:00 p.m. game.
