Women's Ice Hockey Announces Team Awards And 2013-2014 Captains
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross women's ice hockey head coach Peter Van Buskirk has announced the 2012-2013 team awards and captains for the 2013-2014 season. Senior forward Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore goalkeepers Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) were each named Most Valuable Players and senior Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) received the Seventh Player Award. Rising seniors Amanda Gallagher (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Emily Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) and rising junior Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) were named next year's team captains.
English led the team with 16 assists last season and was second in points with 23. The senior captain also had three power play goals and one game-winning goal. She was tied for the team lead with 14 points in ECAC East conference play. English finished her career third all-time in Holy Cross history with 68 assists and sixth all-time with 104 points.
Manzanares and Stevenson shared time in the crease last season with Manzanres posting a record of 10-3-1 and Stevenson finishing with a record of 6-3-4. Stevenson led the team with a 1.54 goals-against average and .938 save percentage. After two seasons, Manzanares currently sits atop the Holy Cross career record book with a 1.53 goals-against average and save percentage of .930. Stevenson is third in career save percentage (.922) and fifth in career goals-against average (2.00).
Campione finished last season tied for third in total points with 19 and was tied for second in goals with nine. The senior was tied for first with English in ECAC East points (14) last season and totaled 18 goals and 22 assists in 71 career games.
Gallagher, Sullivan and Panarelli combined to play in 74 games last season, tallying 27 total points. Panarelli led the trio with four goals and 13 assists and was named to the 2012-2013 All-ECAC East second team.
