WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has been named ECAC East Player of the Week and freshman Rose Rather (Stamford, Conn.) has been named ECAC East Rookie of the Week as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team went 2-0-0 last week and opened up conference action with a win over Salve Regina.
Giannino posted three assists in the first game of the season versus Sacred Heart (11/8) before opening league action with her first career hat trick against the Seahawks (11/9). The junior forward has six points and is halfway to her single-season career-high points total of 12 just two games into the 2013-2014 campaign.
Rather began her collegiate career with two goals against the Pioneers, including the game-winning tally, before registering one goal and four assists against Salve Regina. She leads the team and the conference with seven points and is also first in the league with five points in ECAC East action.
The women's ice hockey team will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at home against Franklin Pierce at 7:00 p.m.
