Women’s Ice Hockey Defeats Franklin Pierce, 3-1
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.), and freshmen Rose Rather (Stamford, Conn.) and Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) all tallied goals as the Crusaders defeated Franklin Pierce, 3-1, in non-conference women's ice hockey action on Tuesday evening at the Hart Center. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 3-0-0 overall, while the Ravens slip to 2-1-0 on the season.
Holy Cross got on the board early in the first period, as Rather scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season off an assist by junior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) at the 4:53 mark to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead. Less than six minutes later, Holy Cross added its second goal of the contest at the 10:42 mark, as Miller scored her third of the year off an assist by junior Chelsea Monahan (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
In the second period, Franklin Pierce would cut the deficit to 2-1, as Marisa Ketterman scored a power-play goal at the 3:16 mark, with an assist by teammate Francesca Paciel. The scored would remain 2-1, until the 2:47 mark of the third period, as Bagi netted her first career goal on the power-play to give the Crusaders the 3-1 lead. Freshman Livvy Konaxis (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied their first assists of the season on Bagi's goal. The Crusaders would hold the score for the rest of the third period, as they would claim the 3-1 victory.
Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) made 10 saves on the evening and moves her record to 2-0-0 on the season. Ravens netminder Noelle White made 27 saves in the losing effort (2-1-0). Holy Cross held the 30-11 advantage in shots, including a 14-3 clip in the second period. Both teams converted once on the power play, as Holy Cross was 1-for-5, while Franklin Pierce was 1-for-4.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they will travel to Norwich for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
