NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich's Allison Greene tallied the game-winning goal at the 8:32 mark of the first period, as the Cadets defeated Holy Cross, 5-0, in ECAC East women's hockey action on Friday evening at Kreitzberg Arena. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the conference, while Norwich improves to 4-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the league.
Green scored the contest's first goal at the 8:32 mark of the first period with assists coming from Meghan Papagna and Taylor Cross. The Cadets kept up the momentum with a goal just over four minutes later (12:35), as Rachel Bellio scored her second marker of the season with a helper from Kaycie Anderson.
Norwich tallied two second period goals to go on top 4-0. Madyson Moore and Adelle Murphy scored their third and first goals of the year, respectively to increase the lead for the Cadets. Over the first two periods, Norwich held the 18-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Cadets added a power play goal at the 12:44 mark of the third period off the stick of Marie-Philip Guay to make the score its final, 5-0.
Holy Cross junior goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Magarita, Calif.) made 18 saves, as Norwich goalie Taylor Fairchild picked up the shutout with five saves. The Cadets held the 23-5 advantage in shots on goal and also converted one of their three chances on the power play. Crusader senior Amanda Gallagher (Park Ridge, Ill.) led the team with two shots on net.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, when it will travel to St. Michael's for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
