WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior forward Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has been named the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week, for competition from January 6-12. She was also selected as the ECAC East Player of the Week. Giannino helped the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 record and the championship of the Rutland Herald Invitational last week.
During Friday's 4-3 victory over Salve Regina in the tournament semifinals, Giannino posted one goal and one assist. Her goal came with only 15 seconds remaining in the third period, to break a 3-3 tie and give the Crusaders the win. Then in the 3-2 victory over tournament-host Castleton State in the championship game on Saturday, Giannino added one more goal and another assist. Following the two games, she was selected as the tournament's most valuable player.
On the season, Giannino leads the team in scoring with 14 points on six goals and eight assists. Over the course of her collegiate career, she has now totaled 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points.
Holy Cross (8-5 overall, 4-2 ECAC East) returns to action on Tuesday , Jan. 14, when it plays host to Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m.
