WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior goalie Sarah Weber (Summit, N.J.) made 11 saves, while senior Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) and freshman Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.) each tallied two goals and one assist for three points as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team defeated Central Connecticut, 11-6, at Holy Cross Field on Wednesday night in non-conference action. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 7-9 overall, while CCSU, which had won eight straight games entering the contest, falls to 9-6 overall.
The Crusaders scored the first six goals of the contest as sophomore Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) netted two goals in that stretch, while Zebrowski, Concilio, senior captain Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior Corinne Caracausa (North Wales, Pa.) each scored once. After Falynn McCartney put CCSU on the scoreboard with 3:09 remaining in the first half, Caracausa netted her second goal of the game as the Crusaders took a 7-1 lead to the half.
Zebrowski and Concilio each found the back of the net on a free-position shot to increase the lead to 9-1. Amanda Toke and Elyse Malecki then each scored a goal for Central Connecticut to make it a 9-3 game with 17:31 left in the second half. After sophomore Lissie Russert (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a goal, Betsy Vendel scored for CCSU. Sutton then gave the Crusaders an 11-4 advantage with 6:41 remaining. CCSU closed out the scoring with a goal but Malecki and Madison Hughes for the 11-6 final.
Weber tallied a .647 save percentage to earn the win, while Morgan Tullar made nine saves for CCSU. Holy Cross outshot Central Connecticut, 29-21, while the Crusaders secured 18 ground balls and CCSU tallied 13. Holy Cross posted 10 draw controls and Central Connecticut secured nine.
The Crusaders return to action when they conclude the regular season on Friday, April 19 at Holy Cross Field versus Patriot League opponent Lehigh at 5:00 p.m. Go here to watch the game: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/holycross.portal#.
