Eight Race
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross
women’s rowing team competed against Mount Holyoke, Smith,
Trinity and Connecticut College on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday
morning. Trinity won all three varsity races and the Crusaders
placed second in the three races. Holy Cross finished fourth in the
novice eight race. The races featured a gusty cross wind that was
up and down all day.
"We were all pleased with our
performance against some great competition," said Holy Cross
head coach and director of rowing Patrick
Diggins. "Our young team continues to learn more from
each race experience. We've been working on improving on our
weaknesses and also improving on our strengths keeping in mind that
our goal is maximum boat speed in May."
The varsity eight race came right down to the end as Trinity won
with a time of 7:06.12, as Holy Cross just missed first place with
a time of 7:06.32. Mount Holyoke placed third with a time of
7:20.39 and Smith was fourth with a time of 7:30.29.
Trinity (7:19.00) took the second varsity eight race, followed by Holy Cross (7:27.14), Mount Holyoke (7:34.64) and Smith (7:37.98).
The third varsity eight race was also won by Trinity (7:41.30), followed by Holy Cross (7:58.57), Smith “A” (8:12.40) and Smith “B” (8:19.07).
Connecticut College (7:43.60) won the novice eight race, while Smith (7:44.29) placed second, Mount Holyoke (7:48.64) placed third, Holy Cross (7:54.12) placed fourth and Trinity (7:56.05) placed fifth.
The Crusaders return to action on April 11 when they compete versus Bates, Rochester, Trinity, Wellesley & WPI at Lake Quinsigamond. Go here for the race schedule.
