Women's Rowing Picked Fourth In PL Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's rowing team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2013 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. The Patriot League Championship will be held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on May 17.

Bucknell, who will be looking to win its eighth straight Patriot League title, finished first with 50 total points and 10 first-place votes, while Navy was second with 41 total points and two first-place votes. MIT was third with 33 points, followed by Holy Cross (27 points), Colgate (16 points) and Lehigh (13 points). Last year, Bucknell (34 points) won the title on the Cooper River, followed by Navy (29 points), MIT (25 points), Holy Cross (20 points), Lehigh (9 points) and Colgate (8 points).

With the NCAA Rowing Championship bracket expanded from 16 teams to 22 for the 2013 championship, the Patriot League will earn an automatic qualifier this spring. The Patriot League champion will earn a bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship, set for May 31-June 2 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.

The women's rowing team will be spending this upcoming week in Cocoa Beach, Fla. for their annual spring break training trip.

The Crusaders are scheduled to start the season with the Beanpot Regatta on March 23 versus Boston College, Boston University, MIT, Northeastern and Radcliffe on the Charles River.
