Catherine Roy & Aleks Torres Earn All-Patriot League Honors

Catherine Roy

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior captains Catherine Roy (Holliston, Mass.) and Aleks Torres (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) have earned All-Patriot League women's rowing honors. Roy made the first team and Torres was selected to the second team. Torres is the first Crusader to earn All-League honors more than once, as she was also named to the second team in 2012.

Both Roy and Torres were members of the varsity eight for all 13 regattas during the 2012-2013 season, as the varsity eight had a strong season. The Crusaders defeated George Mason and Rutgers, while HC took the victory over Boston College and UConn to win the Irving-Christensen Cup. The varsity eight placed second out of 34 boats at the Knecht Cup and started the spring season with a win versus Smith. During the fall season, the Crusaders placed first in the club eight race out of 17 boats at the Textile River Regatta, finished first out of 48 boats at the Snake Regatta, placed second in the club eight race out of 34 boats at the Head of the Charles Regatta and finished third in the open eight race out of 27 boats at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.

This is the first time that Roy has received All-Patriot League honors. She is a four-year member of the varsity eight. Roy qualified for the 2011 U.S. women's national team Pre-Elite Camp and attended the 2010 U.S. national team Freshman Camp. Roy was named to the 2011 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and was a two-year member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.

Aleks Torres

Torres, who has been a member of the varsity eight since her freshman season, also earned second team accolades last season. She was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011 and 2012.

The Crusaders concluded the 2012-2013 season by placing third out of six teams at the Patriot League Championship on Lake Quinsigamond on May 17. The Crusaders placed second in the second varsity eight race and were third in the varsity four race. This was the best ever result for a Holy Cross second varsity eight boat at the Patriot League Championship and the program's second silver medal, as the varsity four placed second in 2005.
